Bellevue's Landscape Inventory for Parks and Streetscapes
Track: Parks and Natural Reserves
Author(s): Don McQuilliams

The City of Bellevue, Washington uses GIS to manage it's physical assets. The "Parks Landscape Inventory" includes a dozen layers as well as a custom Landscape Inventory Extension created for ArcMap using VB.net and ArcObjects as the development environment. The GIS inventory is used to calculate workload plans and to produce maps given to contractors that maintain the landscaped areas. This presentation will give an overview of the Landscape Inventory Model and show how layers are spatially related and how custom tool applications are used to manage these layers. A scenario will illustrate how a collection of street trees, in need of trimming, can be linked to a work/purchase order and vendor, then mapped, scheduled, and tracked by the Parks Department. This model can be incorporated by any Parks Department in need of a GIS landscape inventory modeling and tracking system.
