Implementing a Spatial Data Warehouse using ArcSDE and Oracle Spatial
Track: Electric and Gas
Author(s): Mark Ledbetter, Seow Lim

Salt River Project (SRP), Arizona, is a large electric utility company serving the Phoenix metropolitan area. Currently, SRP uses SmallworldGIS to model the electric distribution and transmission infrastructure. Since Smallworld GIS data is not easily accessible from non-smallworld clients and standard programming languages, SRP is looking for ways to improve the accessibility of the data. The goal of the spatial data warehouse is to open up the electric GIS data to a wider variety of client applications, including .NET/Java applications, ArcGIS Explorer, Google Earth, standard reporting tools, and others. SRP is implementing the spatial data warehouse using Esri ArcSDE layers on top of Oracle Spatial. The data warehouse will store a replica of the SRP electric data exported from Smallworld.
