All-Hazard Planning and Mitigation Using GIS
Track: Disaster Management and Emergency Response
Author(s): Scott McAfee, Paul Rooney

The Mitigation Division of the Federal Emergency Management Agency has a mission to create safer communities, enable them to recover more quickly from disaster, and lessen the financial impact of disaster. Mitigation does this by analyzing and communicating risk, providing grants and guidance to reduce risk, and providing flood insurance. The Risk Analysis Branch of Mitigation uses GIS as the tool to integrate hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation planning. These presentations will provide an update on the Flood Map Modernization program and describe how Risk Analysis is leveraging the Map Modernization effort, HAZUS and GIS to support multihazard planning and mitigation.
