Revealing the AT&T California and Nevada Spatial Data Infrastructure
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Author(s): Malcolm Adkins, Lesa Bunting

AT&T GIS West have built a comprehensive SDI of California and Nevada to support their internal community and licensed third parties. The AT&T SDI foundation is the NSDI framework. A corporate directive mandated development of a digital land base as a means to share geographic data among all users which would produce significant savings for data collection and use and enhance engineering design and decision making. As with the NSDI objectives, this initiative had goals to reduce duplication of effort, improve quality and reduce costs related to geographic information, to make geographic data more accessible throughout the organization, and to increase the benefits of accessing and using available data. Key partnerships were established with internal departments and external civic and commercial sources to increase data availability and currency. The presentation will highlight the technology, policies, partnerships, standards and people that were necessary to build, sustain, and promote geospatial data sharing.
