Making GIS a Profitable Enterprise
Track: Benefit of GIS
Author(s): Billie Leff

I haven't met an organization which has chosen to use GIS as a tool to perform spatial analysis, make maps, or store data, which has regretted the decision and the large investment accompanying it. It seems however, that a large number of organization; whether not-for-profit, public services or business; struggle with making their GIS endeavors profitable. This panel discussing will focus on various avenues organizations can take to maximize their return on investment and develop profitable GIS business strategies. Some of the specific topics to be discussed include data licensing, providing spatial and geographical analysis, data services (development, storage, maintenance, and serving), application development and serving, hardcopy and digital maps. If you have a specific case study or a point of view you would like us to consider, please e-mail this to bleff@ngs.org.
