The Columbia Regional Geospatial Service Center System is a federally funded initiative to develop a network of regional geospatial service centers across Texas. The purpose of the system is to provide support for economic development, resource management, and emergency preparedness and response. The system currently consists of three centers: Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, The University of Texas at El Paso, and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The Texas Natural Resources Information System serves as the hub of the system and as a conduit for geospatial data flow. The Centers are connected via Abilene, Internet2s high-speed experimental network. Each center operates independently, and the system works together, leveraging strengths of each, particularly in time of emergency. The panel, consisting of representatives from each of the Centers and TNRIS, will discuss the organization and activities of the centers and the system, and outline plans for future development.
