Identifying Service Delivery and Economic Development Opportunities with Business Analyst
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Dan Bartholomew

The ArcGIS Business Analyst extension is helping the City of Aurora, Colorado identify strategic locations for municipal service centers and the delineation of prime redevelopment corridors. Most service needs and economic redevelopment opportunities are based on the geographic proximity to, or inclusion of, specific socioeconomic factors such as income, age, educational attainment, and even assessed valuation. Business Analyst, with its robust demographic and economic data sets, has become the City's "tool of choice" for modeling various geographic-based scenarios such as recreation center placement, public safety need allocation, and the formation and delineation of economic redevelopment areas (Tax Increment Finance Districts, Business Improvement Districts, etc.). In addition to Business Analyst's modeling capabilities, its customizable Crystal Reports feature provides quantitative data to decision makers who are often forced to prioritize projects on limited budgets.
