Geodatabase for Avian Communities of the San Jacinto Mountains
Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management
Author(s): Jack Owens

The database contains data collected from 84 permanent bird plots dispersed among distinct vegetation types to include chaparral, oak woodlands, and coniferous forests. The data on birds and vegetation captures pre-drought period conditions, post-drought period and effects of fuel treatments citing vegetation and bird species density. Geoprocessing will be accomplished to strengthen and validate U.S. Forestry Management decisions and in meeting requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act. This study provides support for decisions and should be expanded and continued to increase understanding of the cause and effects of the many variables within the avian community and their habitat within the San Jacinto Mountains.
