Remote Alaska Landing Zone Surveying and Mapping Techniques
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Robert Beachler

The 611 Air Support Group Geo Integration Office is employing ArcGIS and survey-grade GPS equipment to conduct landing zone surveys of short, semi-prepared airfields for US Air Force installations in remote Alaska. The presentation highlights the use of ArcGIS to determine operational surfaces, airfield elevation and slope, airspace obstructions, plan GPS survey sampling locations, and document load bearing capabilities.
