Leveraging Geospatial Inventory for Telecommunications through Enterprise GIS
Track: Telecommunications and Location-Based Services
Author(s): Chad Hartman

A multi-year project was initiated to construct an enterprise-based geospatial solutions utilizing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) as a guiding framework. This work has yielded several state of the art internal applications that have been built on Esri technologies, including an OSP inventory application. As a fundamental component of inventory, an extensive and highly scalable geocoding platform has been developed and exposed through these SOA frameworks for location validation and includes highly specialized address analysis services. In alignment with the IT roadmap these spatial services are being adapted and exposed to enterprise consumers via an enterprise service bus (ESB). As macro business events have driven strategic spending on broad IT system simplification initiatives, there have been new enablers funded within IT including industry leading vendor products supporting physical and logical inventory. The physical inventory solution, at its very foundation, is constructed on geospatial principles and utilizes Esri technologies to provide key new extensions to the corporate enterprise GIS capabilities including geodatabase elements such as geometric networks, topology rules, and multi-user editing through feature versioning.
