Disaster Response Application for Non-governmental Organizations
Track: Disaster Management and Emergency Response
Author(s): Melissa Gasparich

Disaster response is important for helping people and the communities they live in recover post-disaster. A good response plan will determine the length of recovery after a disaster. The problem with disaster response is teams and resources are not well organized. More effective organization can be achieved by the creation of 'NGO in a Box.' This approach will create a systematic way of responding more effectively to disasters. Benefits of creating this approach are providing Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's) with applications that are easy to use so prior knowledge of GIS is unnecessary. Previous research has been done in creating models that can be implemented immediately after a disaster strikes. The results of this project will create a geodatabase that responders with little to no knowledge of GIS can use to increase the speed of the response process. If these tasks are carried out, planning post-disaster response will yield sufficient results.
