PRO-GRADE: An ArcGIS Application Development for Water Resources Research
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Yu-Feng Lin, Albert Valocchi, Jihua Wang

PRO-GRADE is an ArcGIS-9.2 plug-in package for water resources research, education and management and is free to download. It was developed to assist ongoing assessments of the water resources in Illinois and Wisconsin. It is also being used to assist several groundwater resource studies in Nevada, California and New York. One of our research objectives is to demonstrate the convenience and benefit of using licensed ArcObjects to collaborate with external codes. The package consists of two separate programs: (1) the Pattern Recognition Organizer for GIS (PRO-GIS), and (2) the Groundwater Recharge and Discharge Estimator for GIS (GRADE-GIS). PRO-GIS is a general utility that organizes several image processing algorithms into one user interface to offer the flexibility to extract spatial patterns according to the user's needs. GRADE-GIS is a groundwater recharge and discharge estimation interface that requires only hydraulic conductivity, water table, and bedrock elevation data for simulating two-dimensional steady-state aquifers.
