Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Michael Shean, Hassan Symes

A major function of the Prince George’s County, Maryland Planning Department is to update the Property Geodatabase layer. This layer is the foundation of most of our 120 GIS layers that is maintained by the department, and it represents the legal boundaries within the county. Currently, the layer contains more than 280,000 polygons, which are linked to over 287,000 tax assessment records. In order to manage the county’s rapid development growth, JTX was utilized to manage workflow and to allow multiple users to edit the layer simultaneously. This presentation will highlight how JTX is used to update the property layer more efficiently, lessons learned and how the application has helped solve a mystery.
