Abstract

Foreclosure Mitigation within the City of North Las Vegas
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Michael Wucinich, Kathi Thomas-Gibson, Rasmus Hansen

The City of North Las Vegas (CNLV) experiences high residential foreclosure rates. CNLV will have funding made available to it from the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 to assist with issues arising from foreclosure rates. CNLV works in tandem with various public and private entities to gather statistics of student discipline incidents in local public schools, requests made to the local Department of Child and Family Services, and local criminal activity. CNLV hypothesizes a correlation between its high foreclosure rates and these statistics. CNLV will perform an analysis to test the existence of this correlation. If a correlation exists, further analysis will be performed to define a geographic area to target for CNLV to execute a Neighborhood Stabilization Project to mitigate issues attributed to its foreclosure rates. CNLV will present any findings at the 2009 Esri International User Conference.
