KGIS: A Fully Integrated Approach to Land Records Management
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Author(s): Conn McAnally, Brent Mainzinger

The Knoxville Geographic Information System (KGIS) has been pursuing a comprehensive project for modernizing our enterprise GIS platform, practices, and data. As part of this program, we undertook the task of implementing a fully integrated approach to land records management. We chose Esri®’s ArcGIS® suite of software for both our enterprise server and desktop editing platforms, and working with our enterprise GIS consultant CH2M Hill, we also identified the Sidwell Parcel Builder™ product suite as a solution that addressed the majority of our specific design criteria.

KGIS, CH2M Hill, and Sidwell then worked together to introduce the customization necessary to effectively support our business practices, including complete integration between the GIS and tax and CAMA databases and automatic tracking of parcel genealogy. This solution has been live for several months, and is currently driving our entire cadastral map maintenance workflow.
