MarGISTM_Catchment system is a unique modelling tool combining some of the best numerical models for hydrodynamic and water quality modelling with an Esri ArcGIS system. It is based on the application of two well-tested numerical models: DIVAST for transitional waters and SIMCAT for catchment modelling. The systems comprehensive water quality module provides high resolution spatial and temporal detail of over 30 parameters describing primary production, sediments, heavy metals and coliforms. The MarGISTM_Shellfish add-on uses the ShellSIM© model; it predicts the biological life-cycle of two commonly farmed shellfish species and can be used by both farmers and regulatory bodies to determine the most environmentally sustainable locations for aquaculture farming in coastal waterbodies. The workflow from model setup to viewing of results is entirely captured and contained within the GIS document. The presented system has the capability of being an invaluable tool in supporting sustainable water resources management and sustainable aquaculture management.
