Versatile Map Production: The Value of .NET and ArcObjects

Microsoft .NET technology coupled with ArcObjects and a database, such as Microsoft SQL Server, provides a powerful and versatile platform for automated map production. A process will be presented to produce an ArcMap document file, add data layers and map elements (e.g., text, scale bar, legend), export the map to an image format, and repeat this process many times, each time adjusting the map extent and other details according to information stored in a database table. Important processing and quality control considerations will be discussed as will the value of the automation approach for many other GIS tasks.
