Author(s): Anas Bingaith

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is lacking of effective and efficient management of facilities. The current map at Caltech is not georeferencing, interaction or having a metadata. For any project, the Facilities department has difficulties finding the location of the facilities, and takes long time to get the information about the data. Therefore, the project is to implementing the GIS to create a base map on a specific chosen area within the broader area of Caltech so that the Facilities department have procedures and methodologies of carrying out the project which can be applied in future to the other sections. Implementing the GIS will be able to bring many data in efficient time and then generate new information based on the location. This project shows how to georeference a CAD files in the GIS environment besides learning the procedures and methodologies for creating a base map for the facilities.
