Strategic Planning for the Hawaii Geographic Information Coordinating Council
Track: Spatial Data Infrastructure
Author(s): Ron Salz

The Hawaii Geographic Information Coordinating Council (HIGICC) received an FGDC Category 3 CAP grant to develop a state-wide Strategic Plan. HIGICC is an all volunteer 501c3 that has representation from across the spectrum of data developers, distributors and consumers. The Strategic Plan follows on the successful development of the Geospatial Inventory (I-Plan) presented at the Esri UC in 2005 and coincides with the 10 year anniversary of the HIGICC. This presentation will describe the processes, challenges, rewards and future direction of the HIGICC as developed in the strategic planning process. Major goals for the plan include data standards and acquisition coordination, outreach and communication, grant development and administration as well as strengthening the long term viability of the Council. Capturing these goals at a specific moment in time benefits the entire community and lets us contribute to and benefit from the National Spatial Data Infrastructure.
