Connecting GIS and Document Management in an Enterprise Environment
Track: Federal Enterprise Systems
Author(s): John Peterson

The Albuquerque District Office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has embarked on the an effort that will facilitate two way searching of and for scanned documents related to pertinent geography using Latitude Geographic’s Geocortex, Esri’s ArcServer 9.3, and Compuscan’s UbiQuati Document Management System products.

This project addresses the need at the District level to integrate the powers of Geographic Information System and Document Management System technologies for rapid retrieval of the Albuquerque District's project document holdings. Cochiti Baseline study is serving as the pilot project to build the architecture that will eventually apply to all Albuquerque District Projects. All scanned documents are associated to a geographic extent making geographic searching for associated documents possible. The GIS/Document Image Management Systems integration process will be presented.
