Track: Facilities Management
Author(s): Brian Hilderman, Arnab Bhowmick

The City of Renton has already rolled out an Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to streamline maintenance activities. To further enhance efficiency and productivity, the City is building mobile application for providing timely access to data for the field crew. Consequently, data integrity and assets visualization for remote users is increasingly becoming a necessity. ArcGIS Server Mobile provides the right platform. The mobile application is supported on the Windows Pocket PC (QVGA) and laptops (VGA), and communicates seamlessly with the back-end server using a synchronization process to operate in online/offline mode. ArcGIS provides the flexibility in development along with the database performance expected for the mobile system. The mobile application is integrated with EAM software using stored procedures that passes parameters. The .NET Framework provides different methods for authorization, authentication and encryption. This architecture provides the capability for data synchronization through managed replication along with access to versioned geodatabase.
