Spatial Statistical Methods and Advanced Visualization to Enhance Business Analytics
Track: Benefits of GIS
Author(s): Peter Thum

Organizations are increasingly using advanced business analytics to drive their operational and strategic decisions and to improve the accuracy of business forecasting and optimization. Analytics employ the use of data, statistical and quantitative analysis, and explanatory and predictive modeling to support fact-based decision-making. Space and place (geography) can play a critical role.

This presentation reviews advanced spatial visualization and analytics/statistical techniques (e.g., geographic regression analyses, cluster analysis/heat mapping, spatial gravity models, time-series analysis) that can be used to enhance business analytics and business decision-making. Disciplines that will be covered, by way of example, range from asset revenue optimization and fraud detection to retail basket analysis, customer marketing optimization; and supply chain logistics including route profitability optimization.
