Saving Money through the GIS Integration of Water/Wastewater System Asset Management
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water
Authors: Warren Back, Jeff Kirshberg

Infrastructure Engineering Corporation (IEC) has assisted water and wastewater municipalities throughout California to integrate the fundamentals of Asset Management into their Capital Replacement Programs, with minimal costs to the agency. By utilizing information that is currently being collected, the Business Risk Exposure (BRE) of each facility is determined based on the probability and consequence of failure of the asset, as well as the facility's redundancy. By integrating this process into a GIS database, the final result is the development of a Capital Replacement Plan and Monitoring Program which aims to maximize every dollar spent by the agency.
