Abstract

Durham Region Transit Cartographic Product Lifecycle: Lessons Learned
Track: Cartography and Map Production
Authors: Greg Czajko

Durham Region Transit, Ontario Canada, uses Esri ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator software to produce all in-house and public Cartographic print and web products. Lessons Learned over the past 5 years will be showcased throughout this presentation, covering paper-to-digital conversion through to publication of a Public Full-System Map product. This publicly disseminated double-sided pamphlet map displays offset bus routes, major bus stops/connections and community Points of Interest all georeferenced to a Single Line Road Network.
Major milestones will be discussed from both an administrative and technical standpoint; identifying barriers to success and strategies employed to overcome them. This presentation will help you steer clear of common problems when considering a move to in-house cartographic production and provide you with technical and Administrative best-practices. As the Technical Lead on this project the presenter will provide unique and personal insight into the lifecycle of a major cartographic product.
