Applicants Derived Area of Responsibility for Canadian Force Recruiting Centers
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Fraser Moffatt, François Larochelle

The GIS team within the Director General Military Personnel Research and Analysis at the Department of National Defence uses historical data on Canadian Force (CF) recruits to inform CF recruiting centers on where their applicants come from. In the first part of this talk we describe how the team uses Network Analyst and Business Analyst to generate the Applicants Derived Trade Area (ADTA) of a recruiting center. The ADTA is a polygon containing the majority of the CF applicants who apply to the recruiting center. In the second part of the talk, we describe how Spatial Analyst is used to measure the attractiveness of a recruiting center within the population located inside its ADTA. The results from this type of analysis provide useful information for defining the area of responsibility of a CF recruiting center.
