The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) serves an area of 883 square miles which covers the City of Chicago and 125 suburban municipalities. MWRDGC operates the largest wastewater treatment plant in the world (Stickney Water Reclamation Plant), in addition to six other plants and 23 pumping stations. The District treats an average 1.5 billion gallons of wastewater each day.
In July 2009, the MWRDGC began implementation of an Enterprise GIS program. This paper will describe the implementation of wide range of business applications including support for the Intercepting Sewer and TARP (Tunnel and Reservoir Plan) infrastructure network, Stormwater and Waterways, Industrial Users, and the Biosolid treatment program.
The Enterprise GIS is being deployed to users using a central web portal developed using Esri's ArcGIS Server with the Microsoft Silverlight API. Centralized access to both data and multi-media applications has helped MWRDGC realize immediate benefit from their investment.
