The increased of floods occurrences in urban area are largely due to urbanization process which is mostly reflected by the demand on urban facilities and change on land use activities as a result causing more impervious surface.. The amount of losses due to that disaster has been increasing over the years. This increase is attributed to the growing population and higher building density in urban area. Flash flood usually occurs with little or no warning after heavy rain and can reach peak level in a short time. Istanbul experienced with heavy precipitation on early morning 9 September 2009, especially Ayamama creek watershed. Flash flood has caused the death of over 30 people and around a billion dollar of damage. The paper will discuss GIS-based urban flash flood analysis a case study from Istanbul, Turkey.
