Points, Lines, and Polygons in Charge: GIS' Manifest Destiny
Track: State and Local Government
Authors: Bill Hodge

GIS emerged from its cartographic roots, and, in one generation, has moved from an esoteric concept merging data and location into a true disruptive technology, one of the fastest growing in the modern world. Now, in addition to its expanding use in Enterprise applications and social networking, it is being increasingly incorporated into Information Management through Business Intelligence and Business Analytic applications.

In its continuing evolution, GIS will assume an ever-increasing role within the municipal, business, and education communities, especially within BI and BA.

This presentation will explore the implications of this growth and expansion through the next generation.

This author sees GIS consuming these technologies as it continues to evolve to become the Penultimate Technology: GIS - Everything, Everywhere, for Anyone, Anywhere, at Anytime.
