Abstract

Architecture for Patrol Routing Simulations
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Authors: Allen Parrish, Dana Steil

We will introduce the 4E's architecture for patrol routing simulations. The 4E's architecture includes Expression, Execution, Evaluation and Engagement of patrol routing algorithms that target roadway hotspots. The algorithms are first expressed in a Domain Specific Language, Turn, which we created for this express purpose. The algorithms are then executed and evaluated in a custom simulation environment, PatrolsSim. Finally, agents request patrol routes using an Esri/Flex interface. We apply this framework to the traffic safety domain where police officers target crash hotspots. Demonstrations and evaluations of patrol algorithms will be presented along with several case studies. Overwhelming positive police agency openness to this system will be discussed.
