Using GIS for Storm Water Master Planning in Las Vegas
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water

The Clark County Regional Flood Control District (CCRFCD) was created in Nevada in 1985 to mitigate flooding problems through the development of stormwater master plans and other activities. Historically, the Las Vegas Valley Flood Control Master Plan has been updated every 5 years. However, to move towards an ongoing master planning process and ensure that the associated data stays current, CCRFCD recently developed a dynamic, relational Arc Hydro SDE geodatabase (AHGDB) that incorporates hydrographic and spatial data representing the elaborate regional flood control system in the Las Vegas Valley. A maintenance toolset was also developed as an ArcMap extension to facilitate the process of continually updating the database. The toolset provides the user with a streamlined set of browsing, exploring, and editing tools focused on typical maintenance workflows. This paper will discuss the use of GIS at CCRFCD and describe the development of the AHGBD and associated maintenance toolset.
