Abstract

Airport Vertical Profile Tool
Track: Charting and Data Collecting
Authors: Jonathan Peer

The Airport Vertical Profile Tool provides a tool and workflow within the PLTS - Aeronautical Solution that automates the production of Type A Operating Limitations charts. Pilots use these charts for determining critical maximum safe take-off weights, general situational awareness, and emergency planning. The tool analyzes and transforms obstacle and terrain data in the areas of interest to produce Type A Operating Limitations charts in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization specifications. A vital part of the terrain analysis is the evaluation of the area surrounding the airport and the extended runway centerline to determine an elevation profile based on maximum heights within the polygon, rather than only along one line through the polygon.
