Track: Parks and Natural Reserves
Authors: CRISTINA OANA, BOGDAN CHEVERESAN

Natura2000 network includes the most important protected areas for the protection of animals, plants and habitats in Europe. Its purpose is to preserve on long-term these habitats and species, and if it is necessary to restore them in order to achieve a favorable conservation status. Natura2000 network covers about 20% of the European Union territory and is based on the EU Directives on Habitats, no. 92/43/EEC and Birds, no. 79/409/EEC.

The Romanian National Agency for the Protected Natural Areas and Biodiversity Conservation and 26 Administrations of the Natural and National Parks use the latest GIS and GPS technologies to monitor the species of flora and fauna and natural habitats in Romania.

All these efforts will provide the decision support for creation of the Integrated National Register species of flora, fauna and natural habitats in Romania of community interest.
