Abstract

Pomona Water/Wastewater Operations Division: Paper Maps to Mobile GIS
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Storm Water
Authors: Peter King, Patrick Ward, Nichole Horton

As office functions related to operating the City of Pomona's water and wastewater services become increasingly paperless, the Division has adopted a GIS Initiative that will transform how data is viewed, while providing field crews access to current data, including editing capabilities. The initial stages of this project included the development of a water and wastewater Geodatabase, scanning thousands of "As Built" drawings, followed by the conversion of these "As Built" drawings into a GIS format. The process continued with including hyperlinks of the "As Built" drawings, photographs, and videos to individual mainline segments for reference. Once the initial conversion work was completed, the data was integrated with GBA Master Series software for asset management and work order processing. The development of a mobile mapping application using ArcPad 8 was then developed and field crew supervisors were equipped with tablet PC's for viewing and editing data in the field.
