Abstract

Migrating ARCIMS to FLEX API -City of Beaverton Case Study
Track: Application Development
Authors: Traci Rigby, Mike Jun, Keelan Holman

Do you have legacy ARCIMS applications that you want to move to ArcGIS Server using the new FLEX API? Beaverton GIS chose to develop a multi-purpose FLEX-based map application from scratch, using a comprehensive, yet easily configurable platform. This session will describe the process used to migrate several popular internal applications into this new architecture.

You will learn about visioning, choosing the right API, implementation strategy, data and server migration, creating an intuitive UI, precise functionality, pilot testing, deployment planning, automated processing developed to support the application, and the rollout. What technical obstacles were encountered? What would we do differently? What did we learn? How did it turn out? What to look out for in your own migration?

This presentation will be greatly beneficial for the mid-size local government agencies who want to migrate ArcIMS to ArcGIS server or are about to explore a new web world from the Desktop.
