Abstract

DISDI - Geo-enabling the Defense Installations Enterprise
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: David LaBranche

While the elusive goal of an "enterprise GIS" remains a challenge, the Department of Defense continues to build a true enterprise capability which employs GIS for warfighting, intelligence, and business missions. This presentation will highlight the recent advances of the Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure Program in DoD, with an emphasis on using enterprise standards and common processes to achieve measurable goals. The DISDI Program is also working hard to ensure all defense installation GIS capabilities are compatible with the standards and capabilities of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, as well as the national standards promoted by the Federal Geographic Data Committee. One highlight is a new public data set for mapping DoD installations, the most comprehensive and uniform spatial dataset of its kind ever released by the department.
