Abstract

3D Digital Terrain Model (DTM) for Transportation Project
Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction
Authors: Kourosh Langari

Mobile Terrestrial Laser Scanning (MTLS) is an emerging technology that combines the use of a laser scanner(s), the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) on a mobile platform to produce accurate and precise geospatial data. The point cloud data can be imported into various software packages including GIS, and others. Further data manipulation and/or fusing other type of data and analytical tools with the imported point cloud create a verity of value-added products. Since lidar data can be imported and exported buy most commercially available packages, vast majority of 3D format programs, like ArcGIS Geodatabase, AutoCAD, Microstation, etc. have capability to work with the point cloud data. This abstract will cover the optimized work flow for development of DTM utilizing mixture of photogrammetric, air & ground base lidar and terrestrial laser scanning in GIS & CADD environment.
