Abstract

NGA Support to Haiti—Airborne Lidar Research Test Bed Team
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Authors: Ann Carbonell, Julia Collins

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has been a principal player in the response to the Haiti crisis. The agency's efforts have included collection, analysis, and dissemination of overhead and airborne imagery and geospatial products. In addition to conventional geospatial products, NGA, in partnership with SOUTHCOM, rolled out an innovative sensing and production capability that demonstrated collection and analytical automation with timeliness that has never effectively been accomplished before. Within hours of being contacted by SOUTHCOM, NGA and the partner organization deployed resources and within a day the first elements of the Airborne LIDAR Research Testbed (ALIRT) team arrived at SOUTHCOM. Forty-eight hours later, the first products were delivered to the command's staff.
