Using 3D Laser Profilers and IMUs to Measure Road Geometry

This presentation will introduce a new methodology to create DTMs of roads without the large file sizes commonly associated with LiDAR. A valuable common by-product of the data is distress analysis of paved roads. The presentation will cover the acquisition system and show test results obtained in the field using these techniques. The results will show that compared to existing LIDAR based mobile mapping technologies this method is more accurate and repeatable for road geometry measurement.
