Using GIS for Geologic Mapping During the Oroville Spillway Reconstruction
Authors: Nicholas Hightower, Andrew Barron, Holly Nichols
As part of the major repair effort for the Oroville Spillway Reconstruction, detailed geologic mapping of the rock foundation was required before placement of new concrete. Our team used UAV-acquired images to create georeferenced images so that mapping could be completed directly on the high resolution orthomosaics. In total, roughly 1 million square feet of rock foundation was mapped at 1:60. The field maps were digitized and creates a large gdb that documents the new foundation conditions.
