Planning Wisconsin Seminar Results: The Multipurpose Role of LIS/GIS Technology and Land Use Planning

In July 1996 the Report of the State Interagency Land Use Council was presented offering a vision of the future of land use planning in Wisconsin. A key component of the Interagency Land Use Council (ILUC) vision was the development of land information systems at the local government level that could be integrated for local, regional, and State-wide applications. In response to this landmark development, the University of Wisconsin - Madison conducted a seminar called Planning Wisconsin: Exploring the Role of LIS/GIS Technology, beginning in the late fall of 1996 and through the spring of 1997. The weekly seminar has engaged a variety of State government officials, faculty and students in discussions explaining the relationship between land information and land use. This presentation will present the results of this seminar as they relate to land information policy, roles LIS/GIS users will play, and the implications of this process to the LIS/GIS community.
