According to the statistics, breast cancer is the most common cancer American women develop. Previous studies demonstrate breast cancer clusters in certain regions of the United States. This investigation applies GIS to county-level statistics to map the incidence and mortality of breast cancer within the State of Georgia. It focuses on uncovering any marked geographic variation in the distribution of this killer as has been demonstrated nationally and internationally. These statistics, obtained from cancer registries, hazardous site databases, and population and agricultural censuses, include environmental variables suspected as human carcinogens and demographic variables noted as potential contributors to cancer risk.
