Abstract
Survey Grade Data Collection Using SurvPC with an Esri OEM
Track: Surveying
Authors: Gary Rosen
This presentation will explain and demonstrate the workflow and capabilities of the new Carlson SurvPC field data collection software working with an Esri OEM engine to allow the direct use of Esri MXD datasets. Running in Windows, typically on a rugged tablet, SurvPC provides an robust and verstaile data collection platform, and with the introduction of the Esri OEM engine under the hood, its capabilities now include the ability to load an Esri MXD and supporting geodatabase directly onto the tablet and use it directly within SurvPC as the source of not only the visual base map, but even more importantly as the source for Feature and Attribute data collection. SurvPC works natively with virtually all survey instruments available today, from total stations, to robotic total stations, to a wide range of GPS receivers. The loaded MXD in conjunction with the Esri OEM engine provides the schema from the geodatabase, so that as points are collected and coded, the operator is prompted for the appropriate attributes for each Feature collected, and the entered values are stored directly within the geodatabase without conversions. This industry changing workflow provides the critical bridge between GIS and survey-grade data collection.
