The AEC industry uses specialized information systems for functions including design, construction, and facilities management. The green building industry has created new demands to link data across these systems. However, this type of data integration is difficult due, in part, to the lack of a generally accepted building and spaces identifiers. This paper introduces a new GIS-based approach to creating identifiers and demonstrates its use for a global data set of green building activities.
