The importance of GIS in emergency response and preparedness is inevitable. As population size increase and citizens demand faster response time; there is the need for simple but effective GIS products for first responders. Making the best use of GIS during an emergency relates to proper pre-planning including identifying and locating emergency assets, evacuation routing, and block plan design. Furthermore, post recovery activities are an important function that ensures the success of the emergency operation process. The scalability of GIS enables local governments to handle these challenges.
