Esri has made a commitment to development on the iPhone platform, with the ArcGIS Mobile group providing examples of simple Web mapping, and with the planned introduction of a native iPhone API. We agree that these developments are excellent news, but hop on board as we develop apps that will run on the iPhone AND Android devices without learning Objective-C! This presentation will demonstrate the design and implementation of a location-aware site for location-based feedback within a user's local community. A touch-enabled version of the OpenLayers client will be used in conjunction with CloudMade tiles, the ArcGIS Server REST API, and other services. We'll demonstrate with a practical example how the Esri developer can deploy sites optimized for today's mobile devices. Code examples, caveats to development, and pitfalls to avoid will all be covered. The presenter promises NOT to show the audience how to locate coffee shops near the Palm Springs Convention Center.
