Enterprise GIS Using a Framework Approach - Silverlight

—Felix Lopez-Phillips (Photo Science Inc.)

Beyond the immediate need to access spatial data in an intuitive manner, today's enterprises require the integration of diverse information assets in a collaborative environment while creating business-oriented products within spatially oriented workflows. At the same time, fiscal realities demand approaches that provide high abstraction levels for quick functionalities creation and dynamic functionalities plug-in and to avoid the proliferation of multiple websites to maintain. This unique framework approach has been implemented by Photo Science within several enterprises; the current evolution uses Silverlight 4, Entity Framework, WCF, and ArcGIS Server 10. On-demand virtual application creation from one website, adaptable workflows, collaboration tools, data abstraction layer implementation, and lessons learned will be reviewed.
