Abstract Riding the STEM Wave to Geospatial Technologies Integration Track: Supporting a GIS Program Author(s): Eric Cromwell A national call for increased science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) has created a unique opportunity to get geospatial technologies into the classroom. It can be the gateway to all areas of STEM. Seizing on this opportunity, Harford County has developed magnet programs that have focused on geospatial technologies. This includes the nation's first Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Program. Partnerships have been established between this program, the Community College of Baltimore County, Government Agencies and professional Geospatial Organizations. Creating curriculum both mapped to state and industry standards and integrated with a national Geospatial Certification (STARS) helps our program articulate into higher education. These relationships help students gain knowledge and skills that they then can directly apply to any field they choose to pursue. Participants to this presentation will gain an understanding of this program and the partnerships that allowed it to flourish.
