Mayor’s Youth Technology Corps Detroit - NSF-ITEST Youth Based Program
Track: Teaching with GIS in Schools

The Mayor’s Youth Technology Corps was implemental via a National Science Foundation (NSF) – Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) grant awarded to Eastern Michigan University. In cooperation with the Detroit Public Schools, the City of Detroit Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the Environmental System Research Institute, Inc.; the Mayor’s Youth Technology Corps a three-year program designed to provide two cohorts of 100 Detroit High School students, with training and hands-on practice with Esri ArcGIS and information assurance, foremost. MYTC collaborative objective are based on the concept of providing the youth with an academic foundation and cutting-edge technical skills for professional GIS careers in law enforcement, fire fighting, emergency management and homeland security. MYTC’s theme “Creating Safe Communities through Information Technology Training in Homeland Security Applications” is the goal set forth to streamline the youth ideology too incorporate the skill sets to protect their community at large.
