Telling Better Stories with GIS
Track: Teaching with GIS in Schools
Authors: Barbaree Duke

How do we encourage better communication? How do you teach your students to think? Powerful tools create powerful stories. The English Language Arts, reading and writing, have terrific geospatial stories to tell. Using GIS to enhance existing stories as well as create new points of view is enlightening for students and freeing for teachers. Students begin to think through the logic of queries and analysis. Stories emerge. New conclusions are drawn. The geospatial landscape of endless possibilities invades students' imagination. Come explore how your students can tell better stories, write better essays and conduct more in depth research with the power of GIS.
