Abstract
Using the Geospatial Technology Competency Model
Track: Teaching with GIS in Higher Education
Authors: Christopher Semerjian, David DiBiase
The Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM) identifies skills, competencies and core technical abilities required to be successful as a geospatial professional. Based upon the seminal work by the University of Southern Mississippi and the University Consortium for GIScience and in collaboration with the National Geospatial Technology Center (GeoTech), the GTCM was officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA) during June of 2010. This talk will provide an overview and history of the GTCM and focus on ways to use the GTCM for academic program development, program assessment, and articulation. Our talk will highlight the newly developed GTCM Assessment Tool for academic programs. Audience members will participate in a group discussion and live demonstration/exercise utilizing the tool. Critiques, suggestions and comments will be discussed and collected.
